The Elephant, the Lion, and the Monkey

The Lion was supposed to be the king of the beasts, and the Monkey wasn't satisfied. He thought, well, maybe there was a lot of animals in the wood was more substantial than the Lion, so he thought he would get up a con- test. So the next day he decided on the Lion and the Elephant. So he swung around through the trees until he found the Lion. Well, then he decided to go dig up the Elephant. But when he found the Elephant, the Elephant was eating his dinner. So the Monkey walked up to the Elephant and spoke to him. The Elephant didn't want to be bothered, told him to beat it. So the Monkey told him, "Well, you oughta be nice to me, for I know something you don't know." So the Elephant wanted to know what did he know that he didn't know, 'cause he figured he knew more than the Monkey. So the Monkey say, told him, "Aw well, that's all fight, you don't want to listen to me, you want to eat your dinner." So the Elephant insisted he tell him, you see, what he was talking about. So the Monkey say, "Oh, it's just that Lion again, talking about you and all your kin-peoples." Said, "I know you can't be friends. The way he talked about you is a doggone sin." So, he say, "Even talked about your mother, and your cousin, too. He talked all about your face." He says, From the way he talked, you don't belong to no animal race." He says, "But I shouldn't be telling you this, for you-all's friends." He say, "I guess I better go ...
